The House of (Chanel S.A.) started in 1909 when Gabrielle Chanel opened a millinery shop at 160 Boulevard Malesherbes, the ground floor of the Parisian level of the socialite and material money manager Étienne Balsan, of whom she was the mistress.[2] Because the Balsan level additionally was a salon for the French chasing and wearing élite, Chanel had the chance to meet their demi-mondaine paramours who, thusly, were ladies of design, upon whom the rich men showed their abundance – as resplendent garments, adornments, and caps.
