As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has an absolute space of 28.22 square miles (73.09 km2), of which 26.93 square miles (69.75 km2) is land and 1.29 square miles (3.34 km2) is water.[7] Part of the city incorporates the eastern tip of Lake Minnetonka, probably the biggest lake in Minnesota. The power source of Lake Minnetonka is Minnehaha Creek, which twists through south Minneapolis and streams over Minnehaha Falls and into the Mississippi River. Minnetonka is found 8 miles (13 km) west of Minneapolis, in Hennepin County.
